O professor Henk van Twillert e o grupo Vento do Norte juntam-se a Frank Liebscher para uma série de concertos em Leipzig, de 20 a 23 de fevereiro, no Festival Internacional Overture. Trata-se do 1º Festival Internacional de Saxofone Clássico, organizado pela Universidade de Música e Teatro de Leipzig (HMT - Hochschule für Musik & Theater Leipzig) e tem o objetivo de dar maior foco ao saxofone clássico e à sua diversidade.
O repertório do Overture inclui obras de literatura clássica, além de arranjos para saxofone, conjunto de saxofones e saxofone com piano. Com esta programação diversificada, o festival promete ser uma experiência artística memorável para todos os amantes do saxofone e entusiastas de música.
O concerto de abertura acontecerá no Grosser Saal (Great Hall) da HMT, seguido de concertos em locais emblemáticos de Leipzig: o Musiksalon (Salão de Música), a Alt Börse (Antiga Bolsa de Valores), a Altes Rathaus (Antiga Câmara Municipal), o Völkerschlacht Denkmal (Memorial da Batalha das Nações) e a prestigiosa Thomaskirche (Igreja de São Tomás).
Os principais artistas participantes do Festival Internacional Overture são o professor Henk van Twillert e o conjunto "Vento do Norte", da ESMAE - Escola de Música e Artes do Espetáculo, juntamente com o Frank Liebscher.
EN | Professor Henk van Twillert and the group Vento do Norte are joining Frank Liebscher for a series of concerts in Leipzig from February 20 to 23 at the International Overture Festival. This is the 1st International Classical Saxophone Festival, organized by the Hochschule für Musik & Theater Leipzig (HMT). The aim of the festival is to bring the genre of Classical Saxophone into greater public focus and showcase the diversity of the instrument.
The repertoire of the festival includes works from the classical original literature as well as arrangements for saxophone, saxophone ensemble, and saxophone with piano. The festival kicks off with an opening concert in the Great Hall of the HMT and offers additional events at representative Leipzig venues, including the Musiksalon and the Blackbox of the HMT on Dittrichring, the Alte Handelsbörse, the Alte Rathaussaal, the Völkerschlachtdenkmal, and the Thomaskirche.
The key participating artists are Prof. Henk van Twillert and the saxophone ensemble "Vento do Norte" from ESMAE Porto (Portugal), along with Dr. Frank Liebscher from HMT Leipzig.
Biografia - Henk van Twillert:
O saxofonista Henk van Twillert (1959) estudou no Conservatório Sweelinck, em Amesterdão, com Ed Bogaard, onde obteve o diploma de solista com distinção. Em 1979 fundou o famoso “ASQ – Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet”. Este quarteto gravou uma vasta discografia e fez digressões de sucesso com inúmeros músicos famosos, incluindo Jaap van Zweden, Wayenberg Daniel e Han Bennink. Figurou também em concertos notáveis, entre outros, o concerto final da EXPO '98, em Lisboa, e a abertura do estádio Amsterdam Arena (atualmente Johan Cruijff Arena). Em 1993, Henk van Twillert lançou-se numa carreira a solo, fundando o “Amsterdam Soloist Quintet”, com o qual gravou diversos trabalhos discográficos de grande sucesso, destacando-se o álbum "Tango, um tributo a Astor Piazzolla", com a violinista Sonja van Beek, e "Homenagem a Heitor Villa-Lobos".
O ano de 2001 foi um marco na carreira de Henk van Twillert, quando gravou as famosas "Suites para Violoncelo" de Johann Sebastian Bach. Em 2002, gravou o álbum “Fado Saudades", com a participação de Carlos do Carmo. Em 2006 Henk foi convidado para participar no prestigiado Festival de Música em Newport, nos Estados Unidos da América. Também nesse ano gravou o álbum “Confesso”, com a soprano Inessa Galante.
Entre os diversos projetos musicais, ressalva-se também o dueto de Henk van Twillert e o pianista Tjako van Schie, formado em 1986. O duo tem atuado em diversos locais, entre os quais Holanda, Portugal e as Antilhas Holandesas. Em 2011, o dueto lançou o seu álbum triplo "A Bag of Music".
Em 2005 formou o grupo Vento do Norte - formado por jovens saxofonistas da sua classe - e com eles atuou em diversos palcos nacionais e internacionais.
Entre 2009 e 2011 Henk van Twillert residiu em Nova York, onde trabalhou no seu doutoramento “Bach’s Cello Suites Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone”, tendo obtido o Grau de Doutor em junho de 2013. Paralelamente, Henk compôs várias canções - como cantor e líder de banda: Mr. Henk & Band - que viriam a completar o seu álbum "New York".
Em março de 2012 estreou-se com Carlos do Carmo no prestigiado teatro "Carre". No mesmo ano, iniciou a digressão “Meet the artists”, apresentando-se regularmente em palco em Amesterdão e Roterdão, com vários músicos convidados. Devido ao grande sucesso, a digressão continua em 2024 com os seus notáveis colegas do Quarteto de Saxofones de Amesterdão e do Duo de Contrabaixo, juntamente com Dominic Seldis.
Henk van Twillert executou diversas peças a solo com orquestras sinfónicas de sopros, entre elas, a Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, a Banda Sinfónica da Força Aérea Portuguesa e a Banda dos Fuzileiros Navais Holandeses da Marinha Real. Compositores como Chiel Meijering, Gijs van Dick, Rob Hauser e Johan de Meij escreveram novas composições para Henk e o seu Saxofone barítono.
Após 25 anos como docente de saxofone permanente no conservatório de Amesterdão, decidiu tornar-se “Guest Teacher” para dispor de mais tempo para todos os seus projetos e assim abriu a primeira classe de saxofone em Portugal na Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espetáculo do Porto. Desde então, formou vários agrupamentos de saxofones, entre os quais a Orquestra Portuguesa de Saxofones e o Ensemble de Saxofones Vento do Norte.
Henk van Twillert também trabalhou regularmente com a classe de saxofone do El Sistema - Rede Nacional de Orquestras Juvenis e Infantis da Venezuela. Em 2019 foi galardoado em Aveiro com a "Medalha de Mérito" pelo seu excecional contributo cultural. Com atuações em todo o mundo, Henk leva sempre no bolso o seu programa especial para crianças "Stars of the Future".

Vento do Norte é um grupo internacional único de saxofones, composto por jovens músicos talentosos que estudam sob a direção do professor e saxofonista de renome mundial Henk van Twillert. É também uma plataforma musical sólida que resulta do trabalho pedagógico inovador de Henk van Twillert, em particular na Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espetáculo (ESMAE). Desde 2005, data da sua criação, o Vento do Norte renova-se anualmente constituindo assim uma plataforma de lançamento de jovens músicos para o mundo dos concertos, das digressões e da internacionalização.
As experiências do mundo real em palco orientam o ensino, a atuação e a encenação da aprendizagem dos jovens músicos, no sentido de um projeto artístico de crescimento pessoal e social. Vento do Norte, tem sido distinguido com vários prémios, entre eles, o prestigiado “Concorso Internazionale di musica da camera 'Città di Chieri", em Itália. Em 2019, Vento do Norte gravou o seu segundo álbum, “Toot Your Roots”, e é liderado pela 7ª geração do ensemble, cuja força é constantemente reforçada pelos alunos mais novos que podem ser ouvidos nas faixas 11 e 12 do mesmo álbum.
O Vento do Norte combina uma visão moderna da música de câmara com interpretações convincentes. Tocam adaptações únicas de Bach, Beethoven e Mendelssohn. Transformam o fado melancólico, tocam tangos empolgantes e enriquecem a alma carregada de James Brown. O conjunto está a conquistar rapidamente o mundo, desde os teatros do Sul da Europa até aos palcos de Caracas, Venezuela. Destacam-se os concertos de 2007 em Bruxelas e Antuérpia por ocasião do 50º. aniversário da União Europeia e a notável digressão de 2016 nos EUA, onde atuaram em Nova Iorque, Boston, Nova Jersey, Mansfield e Rochester. Dutch saxophonist Henk van Twillert (1959) studied at the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam with Ed Bogaard where he completed his studies for the Superior Soloist diploma Cum Laude 1979 together with Bart Kok he was the co-founder of the renowned Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet. Henk van Twillert recorded numerous CD’s and performed as a soloist with the Amsterdam Soloist Quintet. This co-operation resulted in the highly successfully productions “Tango, homage to Astor Piazzolla” together with violinist Sonja van Beek, and “Homage to Heitor Villa-Lobos”. 2001 became a landmark in the career of Henk van Twillert when recorded for the first time the famous Solo Cello Suites of Johann Sebastian Bach on the baritone saxophone. In 2002 Van Twillert recorded a CD with Portuguese fado music, “Saudades” together with the Grammy awarded Portuguese singer Carlos do Carmo. From 2006 on he was invited to the Newport Music Festival in USA. Together with thep Latvian soprano Inessa Galante he recorded the CD “Confesso”.
The duo, Henk van Twillert and pianist Tjako van Schie, formed in 1986, has been performing in many places in Holland, Portugal and in the Dutch Antilles. In 2011 they presented their triple CD “A Bag of Music”. Between 2009 and 2011 Henk van Twillert was residing in New York where he worked on his Ph.D “Bach’s Cello Suites Transcription and Interpretation for Baritone Saxophone”. At the same time Henk started songwriting and completed his album “New York” as singer / bandleader: Mr. Henk & Band. In March 2012 he made his debut with Carlos do Carmo at the prestigious theatre “Carre” in Amsterdam.
In the season 2012 Van Twillert started the concert series “Meet the artists” in Amsterdam and Rotterdam where he invited musical colleagues to join him on stage. Due the great success the concert series are still going in 2024 with his remarkable colleagues of the Amsterdam Saxophone Quartet and the Double Bass Duo together with Dominic Seldis.
Henk van Twillert performed many solo pieces with symphonic wind orchestras, among others, the Banda Sinfonica Portuguesa, Portuguese Air Force Symphonic Band and the Dutch Marine Band of the Royal Navy. Composers as Chiel Meijering, Gijs van Dick, Rob Hauser and Johan de Meij wrote new compositions for Henk and his beloved Baritone saxophone.
After 25 years tutor teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory Henk van Twillert change his position as guest teacher, and opened the first Saxophone Class in Portugal at ESMAE Superior School of Music and Performing Arts in Porto and the University of Aveiro. Since than he formed several saxophone ensembles amongst others Portuguese Saxophone Orchestra and Saxophone Ensemble Vento do Norte. Henk van Twillert also worked regularly with the saxophone class of El Sistema - National Network of Youth and Children's Orchestras of Venezuela. Became awarded in Aveiro with the “Medal of Merit” in 2019 for his exceptional cultural contribution. Vento do Norte is a unique international saxophone ensemble of willful and talented young musicians currently studying under the direction of the Professor and world-renown saxophonist Henk van Twillert. Vento do Norte is a solid music platform which results from the groundbreaking pedagogic work of Henk van Twillert in Portugal, and in particularly at the Escola Superior de Música e das Artes do Espectáculo (ESMAE) in Porto, Portugal. Real-world on stage experiences drive the teaching, performing and staging of the young musicians’ apprenticeship, towards an artistic venture of personal and social growth. Since 2007, Van Twillert’s younger students integrate a satellite ensemble of Vento do Norte, which has been awarded several prizes at the prestigious Concorso Internazionale di musica da camera ‘Città di Chieri’ in Italy. The current recording is their second CD and is led by the 7th generation of the ensemble, whose strength is constantly reinforced by the younger students that can be heard on tracks 11 and 12.
Vento do Norte combines a modern vision of chamber music with compelling interpretations. They play unique adaptations of Bach, Beethoven and Mendelssohn. They transform melancholic fado music, stir up rousing tangos, and enriche the laden soul of James Brown. The ensemble is rapidly conquering the world, from theatres in Southern Europe to stages in Caracas, Venezuela. Of note the 2007 Brussels and Antwerp concerts for the 50th anniversary of the European Union and the remarkable 2016 tour in the USA, where they performed in New York, Boston, New Jersey, Mansfield and Rochester.
